Marysville, OH - Officials have announced an arrest in an arson case where the suspect, former member, 30 year old Stephen Beightler drove a BMW into the church lobby and allegedly set the building on fire.

In the early morning hours of January 10, 2012 the Philadelphia man stole a friend's BMW amd crashed it into New Horizons Baptist Church and started a fire near the car. Officials are not certain how the fire started (ie whether the suspect started the fire or the car ignited).

According to responding emergency crews, the fire was too intense and water was not readily available to stop the fire before it destroyed the entire building.

After setting the fire, Beightler walked to the church playground located 100 feet away, sat down, and watched the church burn.  He was reportedly swinging on a swing.  He did not resist arrest, but was silent about the incident.

When the fire was finally extinguished, fire crews found a BMW parked in the area where the church lobby used to be.

The suspect has been charged with Receiving Stolen Property for the car theft and Arson.
